A personal Story of Success

Marks 30K Run A personal Story of Success Today’s post is going to be a little different.

I’m not going to talk about relationship marketing.

Not going to talk about Facebook, Twitter, or that Tube thingy.

You will see nothing in this post with regards to auto responders, WordPress, Article Writing, or SEO!

Because yesterday was a special day for a special friend.

A friend, not through blood but through a powerful bond, I call brother. A friend, who just a few short years ago was close to death due to failing health.

Yesterday, after months of training every day Mark ran in the famous 30K “Around the Bay race.” Mark and thousands of other dedicated runners from across Canada and the United States took part in the annual event on Sunday March 27, and at exactly one minute past noon, only 2 hours and 30 minutes from when he started Mark crossed the finish line.

 A personal Story of Success

One of the great things that I admire about Mark and others like him is the awesome focus, determination, and sacrifice that they make in order to achieve their goals. Many of you who have read my posts in the past know that I talk more about Mind and Emotion Training than anything else.

The power of the Mind. Your abilities to focus on a simple task or a long term goal. Persistence, Determination, Sacrifice, Dedication are all words that I hold with the greatest respect and I know that I have talked about all these traits several times in my blog.

Emotion, what does it mean to those who finish such a fantastic feat as running in such a spectacular event? What are they feeling when they cross the 5K mark, 10K mark, 20K mark? Having never ran such a race I can only go with how Mark explains it. He says that when he is running he is completely focused. His pace, his breathing, and at 27K when Mark was starting to feel the pain, the finish line. Nothing else matters. There is nothing else.

I know the training of a marathon runner may sound crazy to some.

It affects when you sleep. Your Diet. Your family time. Running and working out every single day without fail, without excuse.

What is the reward? I think that it varies for many. Better health is a biggie. Both physical and mental. A hobby or sport for some. The accomplishment of finishing what others wouldn’t even dare to begin.

Perhaps now you can see that there is a connection between today’s post and many of the articles which I have written on my blog in the past.

A connection of success, of persistence, of personal growth and setting goals.

Of the Greatness that lies in all of us if we dare to let it out!

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” – Calvin Coolidge

If you enjoyed this story of personal triumph then I would greatly appreciate it if you shared it with your friends by pressing on any of the really cool social networking buttons which surround this article.

  1. Hey Kevin, I admire anyone who is disciplined enough to be able to run a marathon or 30k or anything like that. That takes work, it’s not one of those quick-fix kind of things! Your post reminds me of a movie I just saw called “The King’s Speech,” where the new king had a stammer and persistently and courageously worked to eventually read his 9 page speech that was broadcast to 1/4 of the world!

    Hi, Kevin.

You are so right about persistence. So many people give up just too early. It’s a bit of a shame that we don’t have a crystal ball and could see that if we just stick with it, all will turn out…on the other hand, I suppose that would make life a lot more boring :)

  4. Hi, Kevin,
This is a great post and a great story. I also love the quotation by Calvin Coolidge. It’s one of my favorites. Persistence can make a HUGE difference in the long run. The point is the only way we fail is if we quit.

Take care, and have a great weekend.
